Alberto Radius (Alberto Radius) was born in Rome on June 1, 1943 – guitarist, singer and producer. Considered one of the best Italian guitarists.
Radius began his musical career at the end of the 50s. in the group under the name White Booster with which he performed on the dance floors of those years. He then played in the Guido Perrone orchestra for two years.
After a break for serving in the army, he again began to speak in entertainment clubs in various Italian cities with the group I Campanino. Then he moved to Milan where he played with the English Simon & Pennies. However, this period did not last long, because he was soon called to the group I Quelli (future Premiata Forneria Marconi) to replace Franco Mussida, also drafted into the army. With this group, which then changed its name to PFM, Radius recorded the first songs and began to develop his own individual style of playing the guitar.
When Moussida returned from the army, Radius left the group and organized, together with Toni Cicco and Gabriele Lorenzi, the Formula 3 group. After meeting with Lucio Battisti (Lucio Battisti), the group debuted under the brand name of the newly created Battisti, Numero 1, recording Battisti’s song “Questo folle sentimento” (This is a crazy feeling), which came in first place in the hit parades of best-selling singles.
The first album “Dies Irae” was released in 1970, and the outline of it was just the sound of the Radius guitar. Even continuing to work and winning recognition with the group (the album “1972 \ Due anni dopo”), Radius recorded the first solo album under his own name (Radius), which became a noticeable milestone in Italian rock music of the 70s. This is a variation of the jam session in which, among others, Demetrio Stratos, Giulio Capiozzo, Jan Patrick Erard Djivas (Jan Patrick Erard Djivas), who immediately formed the project, formed the Area group – as well as Franz Di Chochcho and Giorgio Piazza from Premiata Forneria Marconi, Gianni Dall’Aglio and Vince Tempera.
In 1974, after the collapse of the Formula 3 Radius group, along with Mario Lavezzi (former member of the Camaleonti and Flora Fauna Cementodi groups), Vince Tempera and Gianni Dal Alo (formerly playing in the Ribelli group), Bob Cayero and another member of the already defunct Formula 3, Gabriele Lorenzi formed the new group Il Volo (Flying), which was produced by the famous creative tandem Mogol (Mogol) – Battisti (Battisti). The group recorded two excellent albums (“Il Volo”, 1974, and “Essere o non essere”, 1975), characterized by a typically Mediterranean sound, melodic, symphonic mixes with anticipation of fusion. The project existed due to a strong intellectual core based on good and original compositional methods, and, despite its short life, gained considerable recognition from fans of the genre, which in the group saw a kind of simplified form of reflection of the main pillars of the then panorama of Italian rock – Banco del mutuo soccorso and PFM, with a slight resemblance to foreign stars such as ELP and King Crimson.
In 1976, after the termination of the project Il Volo Radius released the second solo album “Che cosa sei”, which marked a decisive turn in his musical career. A year later, he began to work intensively as a session musician with many famous Italian performers, often also as an author and producer.
Alberto Radius (Alberto Radius) In 1977, under the CGD label, his next solo album “Carta Straccia” was released, where Daniele Pace and Oscar Avogadro performed as lyrics authors. In 1978 he opened his own studio Radius, where he recorded subsequent albums. In the 90s, it recorded a huge number of commercial content projects, advertising jingle, sound callsigns and music for popular TV shows.
In 1978, the following solo album “America Good-bye” was released. In 1980, under the pseudonym of Freddy the Flying Dutchman Radius realized with Roberto Colombo (Roberto Colombo) the commercial hit “Woytjla Disco Dance”. In the 1980s, three more of his solo albums were released – “Leggende” (1981, CGD), “Gente di Dublino” (1982, CGD) and “Elena e il gatto” (1986 Panarecord), which seemed to be his last in this role.
In 1986, he founded the band Cantautores with which he participated in various television programs of the musical direction and with which he recorded two albums, “Cantautores” (Bards) and “La terra siamo noi” (Earth is We), which featured old hits and new songs.
In 1990, Formula 3 is re-assembled, which makes new arrangements for old songs.
In 2004, Alberto Radius released a new solo album “Please my guitar”.
